Gmail - Error in software when moving items

Between January 15 and January 21, 2014, an issue in Gmail caused some actions, such as deleting, reporting spam, starring, archiving, or moving to a folder, to be incorrectly applied to a different message than the message the user was viewing. As a result, some messages may be unintentionally located in your users’ Trash or Spam, or other folders.

If this issue affected you an email will have been sent to you directly with further instructions.

OS X Mavericks is now available...for free!

OS X Mavericks is now available for free as a software update and can also be located in the App Store. Many users have already gone through with the update and no major issues have been reported as of now. If you have been waiting to upgrade to Mavericks, feel free to go through with the update!

Please notice, with the update to Mavericks, there is a new version of iMovie. The old version of iMovie will remain since the new version’s interface is very different and may cause conflicts with projects started on the old version. I encourage you to test out the new version and once you feel comfortable, to stick with it.

Other changes you will notice:

- iBooks - You can now view books that you've downloaded on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch now on your laptop.

- Maps -    You can lookup directions on your Mac and send them directly to your iPhone.

- Tags -     Simply tags the files you want to organize together with a keyword such as "Science" or "English" then when you want to find those files, simply click on it in the Finder side bar or enter it in the search field.

In total there are 200+ with the new Mavericks OS. Download and enjoy!

Turnitin - Changes to Submission Workflow

Turnitin - Changes to Submission Workflow.

Today we released a number of changes and improvements to Turnitin, the most noticeable of which is a change to the assignment submission workflow for instructors and students. This change is specific to users submitting a single file to Turnitin from Turnitin.com, or select LMS integrations that offer a single-sign-on or a framed-in experience.

As we continue to expand Turnitin’s accepted file types to include files that may have little or no text, we now show an immediate image preview of the file being submitted. Below is the new submission workflow from a student perspective; instructors have a similar experience: First, the student fills out the Submission title field, and selects a file to upload (from local computer, Google Drive™, or Dropbox), then click the Upload button. Step 1: Select File After clicking upload, the student is shown a 'Processing' screen, with some additional information about the submission and assignment. Step 2: Processing A formatted preview of the first page of the submission is displayed. The user is prompted to confirm the submission. If for some reason a paper takes more than 2 minutes generate a preview (which is rare), there is an alternate workflow in which the user can choose a couple options: Cancel, and try again—the user will be taken back to select a file. Keep trying, I'll be back—the user can leave and will be sent an email with status information. The user can also decide to continue waiting. Step 3: Please Confirm The user can zoom in on the image preview if needed to help confirm that they have submitted the correct file. Step 3b: Enlarge Image Preview The user is shown a digital receipt, with some updates. Step 4: Digital Receipt

Additionally, we released a new feature called, Mark-Criterion Association, which is the ability to associate marks (bubble comments or QuickMark® comments) on the document with criteria in the rubric or grading form. The association will appear both on the mark and on the criterion in the rubric or grading form. Service Ends with iContact on January 31st.

In an effort to reduce cost and consolidate resources Hopkinton Public Schools will no longer be using iContact for its listservs(email list management software). As of January 31st, the school district will utilize Schoolwires to send alerts and listservs to parents and community subscribers. This change will not affect iPass or our iAutoalert phone system for student records or district emergencies.

Please visit the E-Flyers link from the districts home page to find instructions on how to create an account. Once you have created an account you can decide which listservs to sign up for at the various schools. If you have difficulties creating an account please contact Ashoke Ghosh or Linda Henderson via email at aghosh@hopkinton.k12.ma.us or lhenderson@hopkinton.k12.ma.us.
